Dodging comparisons to Bauhaus and Joy Division, Blind Lemon Pie create their own daring sound as vocalist/lyricist Doug Hundley's dark, yet tongue-in-cheek phrases run roughshod over the group's passion for odd arrangements and dramatic soundscapes.Their first single 'Laura Mars' (b-side 'A Mirror For Annabelle') show an early tendency for mid-tempo 80's "college pop." Their second single 'Our Red Planet' (b-side 'Lies Of Ireland') shows a similar struggle as the group begins to break away from their '60's influence and head for a darker, more desperate place to brood. The third single released by BLP, called "This Paper Bird" (b-side 'Quite in Kensington") show topics of dread and beauty are still a concern, yet the epics and mellow jams are gone. Instead, a more modern, aggressive sound has immerged.
Their fourth single "The Unfamiliar" (b-side "Lay Your Head (On My Mind))" has become Blind Lemon Pie's signature song, and with good reason! Brilliant, imbecilic, dark and sullen- Blind Lemon Pie in a nut shell! Their Debut Album followed entitled:Blind Lemon Pie includes songs 'Unfamiliar,' 'This Paper Bird,' 'Secrets And Bells,' 'Stronger, Stronger Still,' 'My Sometimes Sister,' 'Personal Savior,' 'Consulate,' 'Quite in Kensington' and 'Spanish Quarters.'
